RB Anderson has right knee surgery
The Associated Press reported Thursday that Broncos running back
C.J. Anderson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and that the extent of the damage will determine how long he’s out.
A full tear would almost surely end his season, and a partial tear could mean a four- or five-week absence.
The team hadn’t addressed specifics of Anderson’s knee injury while awaiting medical reports.
Earlier Thursday, Anderson disputed a report that he had told people close to him that he was done for the season.
Anderson was injured on an 11-yard run Monday night against the Texans but returned to the game and ran 14 more times for 84 yards and a touchdown, finishing with 107 yards in his best performance of the season.
If the Broncos elect to put Anderson on injured reserve and want to bring him back this season, he has to be out for a minimum of six weeks before he can return to practice and has to be out for a minimum of eight weeks before he can play in a game. Decision timeline: The father of Bills safety Aaron Williams said his son intends to wait until the offseason to determine whether to continue playing after sustaining his latest neck injury. Anthony Williams told the Associated Press by phone that while the topic of retirement has yet to be discussed, he intends to involve his entire family in a discussion regarding his son’s future.
“We’ll wait to talk about that at the end of the season as a family and we’ll pray about it, and make the best decision that’s right for him,” Williams said.
He added he’s confident his son has plenty of opportunities beyond football should he elect to no longer play. Williams spoke after his son was blindsided and bowled over by a hit from Dolphins receiver Jarvis
Landry in a 28-25 loss Sunday in Miami. Landry was penalized for unnecessary roughness after he launched himself and caught Williams in the head while blocking on a running play.
Williams was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but cleared to travel home with the team.
Coach Rex Ryan on Thursday would only say that Williams is out indefinitely, while adding: “I don’t think there’s any doubt there’s some longterm concerns there.” Cornerback Stephon
Gilmore said that Williams was experiencing numbness in one of his arms. The team and Williams’ father would not confirm what Gilmore said.
Last year, Williams hurt his neck while diving headfirst in an attempt to tackle Patriots receiver Julian Edelman. Williams missed the final 11 games and had neck surgery, during which doctors shaved two disks to alleviate nerve damage. Extra points: Bills RB
