Scare during Georgetown bus trip

-

Georgetown’s men’s basketball team was involved in a crash Monday while traveling to Pennsylvania to play Villanova.

The traffic accident occurred on I-95 North outside of Baltimore. There were no major injuries to any members of the team.

The Georgetown bus collided with a Lexus SUV that was driving ahead of it.

“It was a harrowing experience,” Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. “It was very, very, very scary.”

Once the players gathered themselves, they got off the bus and helped the 49-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son who were in the SUV.

According to the school, the bus company provided another bus for the Hoyas to continue their trip for Tuesday night’s game against No. 2 Villanova.

Once they arrived safely, the Hoyas gave the Wildcats a battle before falling 75-64.

Josh Hart scored 25 points for the Wildcats (23-2, 10-2 Big East). L.J. Peak scored 21 points to lead the Hoyas (13-12, 4-8).

Alabama works OT: Riley Norris scored six of his 11 points in the fourth and final overtime, including the go-ahead free throws with 56 seconds left, and visiting Alabama finally put away No. 19 South Carolina 90-86, overcoming a career night by Gamecocks star Sindarius Thornwell.

Thornwell finished with career highs of 44 points and 21 rebounds. He made 25 free throws, surpassing LSU great “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s mark of 21 in a SEC game, but it wasn’t enough for the Gamecocks (19-5, 9-2).

Avery Johnson Jr. and Ar’Mond Davis had career highs of 23 points and 19 points, respectively, for the Crimson Tide (14-9, 7-4).

Alabama trailed 70-63 with 2:12 left in the second overtime, yet outscored South Carolina 11-4 to tie it. It was the Gamecocks who rallied in the final 90 seconds of the third overtime after trailing 82-77.

Maryland falls: Lamar Stevens scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half as host Penn State (13-12, 5-7 Big Ten) beat No. 21 Maryland 70-64. Justin Jackson and Kevin Huerter scored 12 points each for the Terrapins (20-4, 8-3).
