Olympia girls stay perfect in water polo

The Olympia girls water polo team continued its unpreceden­ted undefeated run, swimming to an easy 13-2 win over Lake Nona in a state first round play-in game at Lake Highland Prep on Saturday.

The Titans (28-0), last year’s state runner-up, will face South Broward on Friday in an FHSAA state quarterfin­al game hosted by Miami Ransom Everglades School.

“Our (season) goal was not to be undefeated to this point,” said Olympia coach

who is in her eighth year as coach of both the girls and boys teams. “Our goal is to win one possession, one goal, one game at a time.”

Junior Lake Nona’s lone returning starter from last year, put the Lions (18-9) up 1-0 with a goal thirty seconds into the game.

Olympia senior tied the score at 1-1 midway through the first quarter, followed by goals from fellow seniors and led 6-1 by halftime. Delisle finished with five goals. Olympia goalkeeper

had 12 saves and two steals. Her counterpar­t, had 16 saves for Lake Nona.

The two schools’ boys teams also and the Titans faced off on Saturday, with Olympia coming away with a gritty 9-8 victory. The Titans (21-7) led until Lake Nona managed to tie at 8-8 with 5 minutes and 22 seconds to go. Olympia answered two minutes later and held on for the win.

Olympia senior had five goals and two assists and fellow senior had 13 saves.
