Lake Nona is known
Lake Nona developers plan floating water gym, wakeboard park, more
as a site of cutting edge medical innovations. If a developer’s plan goes through, it could be known for a floating water park, climbing tower and wakeboard park, too.

Lake Nona’s developers are planning a floating water park, a jumbo climbing tower and a cable-supported wakeboard park just south of the Orlando VA Medical Center.
Public filings show Tavistock Development Co. is pairing with a German float maker Wibit for a project on a man-made lake in the planned neighborhood of southeastern Orlando.
The project adds on to previous plans for the 350-acre “Southlake Community Park” to include public soccer fields. The new park would connect via Kellogg Avenue, next to the Laureate Park dog park, documents show.
Lake Nona and Tavistock Development has been trying to market itself as a sport-oriented community with the USTA headquarters, a new golfing range under construction and a training facility for the Orlando City Soccer Club.
A Tavistock Development representative did not immediately return a request for comment. The City of Orlando and Wibit also did not have representatives available to discuss the project.
It’s unclear whether the climbing tower, wakeboard facility and floating water park would have public access or how it would be administered.
Plans show floating walkways criss-crossing the lake just south of the Orlando Veteran Affairs Medical Center. The northeast corner of the lake would include a five-story climbing structure near the floating park.
Plans show German company Wibit as producing the water park structures.
Wibit makes floating water parks, mostly for resorts, using inter-connected pieces such as trampolines, tunnels, bridges and slides. The company had an exhibit at the IAAPA theme park trade showing in Orlando in November.
Plans also show four soccer fields and a clubhouse with a snack bar, pro shop, covered seating and bleachers.
The documents also said Tavistock has been discussing a cablesupported wakeboarding facility for the project.
