Rams rally to make state
The Lake Mary boys’ lacrosse team continued its playoff charge, advancing to its second Final Four in three years with a hardfought home field win on Friday.
The Rams, ranked No. 2 in the Super Six, got scoring from six players to rally past Jacksonville Bolles 9-8 in a region final.

“I knew it was going to be a tough game,” Lake Mary coach said. “They presented some match-up problems for us. But we’re doing our job..”
Lake Mary’s win sends sets up a state semifinal rematch against Central Florida rival Lake Highland Prep on Friday at 7 p.m. at Jupiter High School.
Lake Highland ripped the Rams 15-3 on Feb. 24 during the regular season.
A delay of more than an hour due to an oversight in scheduling officials meant the Bishop Moore girls lacrosse team got a late start in its region final at Lithia Newsome.
But the area No. 1 Hornets (18-4) struck early and often in a 19-8 victory.
“We were very loose, very relaxed,” Hornets coach said. “We kept calling it a rain delay without the rain.”
Five players scored three goals apiece for Bishop Moore: seniors
and along with freshmen and The Hornets will play Ponte Vedra (14-4) in a Friday semifinal at Jupiter.
The FHSAA state tennis championships open Monday with top Class 3A teams and individuals starting their two-day tournament at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs. The other three classifications follow with play through Thursday at Sanlando, Red Bug Lake Park in Oviedo and Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford.
Wekiva grad hit .435 (30-for-69) and had a .518 on-base percentage with nine doubles in March for the University of Dubuque (Iowa) baseball team. The senior centerfielder was rewarded with UD student-athlete of the month honors.
Freedom, which achieved a perfect 25-0 regular season with its senior-laden lineup, leads the list of area state title contenders into next week’s boys volleyball district tournaments. The Patriots open postseason play against Tampa Heat, a homeschoolers team, on Tuesday at Lake Nona. Other top seeds in area districts are Lake Mary, Timber Creek and Bishop Moore.
