The First Academy takes care of Trinity Prep 9-2

The First Academy secured a home game in the opening round of next week’s regional baseball tournament with a 9-2 win over visiting Trinity Prep on Thursday.

Jacob Jacome went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kendrick Calilao was 2-for-2 with a run batted in to help the Royals wrap up the Class 4A, District 3 title.

South Sumter held off The Villages in Class 5A to claim the District 6 championsh­ip at Stuart Cottrell Field in Eustis.

The Raiders, who reached the state semifinals in 2015, scored twice in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 win.

New Smyrna Beach defeated Edgewater 13-4 to claim the 7A-5 championsh­ip.

Ocala Forest used an early grand slam to knock off Ocoee 5-1 for the 8A-3 title.

The Lake Howell at Hagerty Class 8A, District 9 championsh­ip game was postponed from Thursday to tonight at 7 due to wet field conditions.

Weather also delayed the Orange City University and DeLand game for the Class 9A, District 2 championsh­ip.

The game was postponed till tonight at 7.

The game will be at Conrad Park in DeLand.

The postseason ended early for the top-ranked team in the Miracle Sports softball Class 3A state rankings.

Cornerston­e Charter Academy held a three-run lead through four innings before losing 6-4 in a regional semifinal against visiting Lakeland Christian.

The Ducks had their lead trimmed to 4-3 following a two-run homer with two outs in the fifth. The advantage evaporated when Lakeland Christian took the lead for good by plating three more runs in the sixth.

Maya Amm finished with a home run in the second inning.

Ali DiBlasio went 2-for-3 with a double.

Lakeland Christian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before CCA scored twice in the third and fourth innings.
