Fagundez leads New England to victory

-

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Diego Fagundez scored two goals in 10 minutes and the New England Revolution rallied from an early deficit to beat the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Sunday.

Fagundez has scored all three of his goals this season in the last two games.

The Revolution have back-to-back wins for the first time this season after a five-match winless streak.

A 22-year-old homegrown, Fagundez ran onto a free ball on the left flank, sped up and pushed home the finish into the far corner in the 34th minute to cap the scoring.

Just outside the box, Ola Kamara side-netted a running half-volley — off a perfectly placed pass by Wil Trapp from well-beyond midfield — to give Columbus a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.

After a turnover by the Crew in their own territory, Fagundez tied it moments later.

Kelyn Rowe won the ball, tapped it to Lee Nguyen, who hit a streaking Kei Kamara for a one-timer that set up a tap-in half-volley.

Cody Cropper had his second consecutive shutout, including four saves, for New England.

Andrew Farrell was sent off for a stud-up challenge on Waylon Francis in the third minute of injury time.

Giovani dos Santos scored and the Galaxy capitalized on host Minnesota's own goal to beat the expansion United on Sunday.

Christian Ramirez's own goal, his second in two matches, gave the Galaxy a 2-1 lead in the 84th minute.

Gyasi Zardes drew a free kick and Romain Alessandrini's entry off the set piece bounced off Ramirez, into the net.

Minnesota has lost each of its last two games by one goal.

Ignacio Piatti scored two goals to lead host Montreal a 10-man Portland Timbers Saturday and become the Impact's all-time leading scorer in MLS.

The Argentine midfielder converted a penalty after just 13 minutes.

He then scored again in the 50th minute to take his career tally to 36 goals, one more than Marco Di Vaio's previous Montreal record.

Kyle Fisher and Ambroise Oyongo also scored for Montreal while Diego Valeri grabbed a consolation goal for the Timbers, who played most of the match a man down after Diego Chara was sent off for slapping Piatti.

Host Seattle ended a threematch losing streak by beating Salt Lake despite missing a penalty.

Harry Shipp scored the winner after 42 minutes when his shot took a deflection and went into the net.

Clint Dempsey failed to convert from the penalty spot in the second half for Seattle but Salt Lake was unable to conjure up a late equalizer.

The Fire registered their first road win this season by posting a shutout of United.

David Accam scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute when he got in behind the Washington defense and then slotted the ball into the right side of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Miguel Almiron scored a hat-trick as host Atlanta defeated Houston.

The Paraguayan international scored twice in the first half to give his team a 2-0 lead after the start of the match had been delayed for almost an hour because of lightning in the area.

He completed his hattrick with a goal from the penalty spot 10 minutes from the end.

Julian Gressel also scored for Atlanta while Erick Torres converted a consolation penalty for Houston in the last minute of normal time.

The Union scored a penalty and from a free-kick to come from behind and beat 10-man Colorado.

Philadelphia sealed its fourth win on the trot when Bosnia and Herzegovia midfielder Haris Medunjanin's curled in a free kick in the 75th minute.

The host suffered its first loss of the MLS season after conceding a late goal to the Earthquakes.

Unbeaten in its first nine games, Dallas tasted its first defeat of the campaign when San Jose's Albanian midfielder Jahmir Hyka scored in the 81st minute.

Cristian Techera and Tim Parker scored either side of halftime for the host.

Techera, the Uruguayan nicknamed “The Bug,” smashed a left-footed volley past goalkeeper Tim Melia for his third goal of the season in the 40th minute.

Vancouver's Fredy Montero had a penalty saved but the miss did not prove costly as Parker scored in the 67th minute.
