The Orlando Magic and second-round pick Wesley Iwundu have agreed in principle to a three-year contract that includes a team option for the third year, Iwundu’s agent, Austin Walton, told the Orlando Sentinel.

Iwundu will earn about $1.05 million in his rookie season, Walton said.

That’s approximately $235,000 more than the league’s minimum salary for a rookie during the 2017-18 season.

Iwundu is scheduled to receive a salary of $1,378,242 for his second season, Walton said. That’s the minimum 2018-19 salary for a player with one year of experience.

Iwundu’s third-season salary of $1,618,520 will become guaranteed if the team retains him beyond a specified trigger date during the summer of 2019, Walton said. That figure is the minimum 2019-20 salary for a player with two years of experience.

The Magic drafted Iwundu 33rd overall last month.

A 6-foot-7 swingman, Iwundu played four years at Kansas State, where he developed a reputation as a hard-nosed, versatile defender.

Iwundu played in all five of the Magic’s summerleague exhibitions earlier this month. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in just under 22 minutes per game.

The Magic currently have 13 players under contract for the upcoming season — not including Iwundu — but it’s important to note that the contracts for swingmen Patricio Garino and Marcus Georges-Hunt are not guaranteed. The Magic’s wings also include Terrence Ross, Evan Fournier and Mario Hezonja.

Iwundu’s contract could become official as early as Tuesday, Walton said.

The Magic are expected to sign big man Marreese Speights in the coming days.
