Hoping for new lights at Apopka

Winds from Hurricane Irma knocked down a stadium light pole at Apopka last week, but the Blue Darters still hope to play a 7 p.m. home football game as scheduled on Friday against Boone.

Apopka plans to bring in portable lighting and change out bulbs on the other poles.

The Blue Darters (1-1) are ranked No. 3 in the Sentinel Super 16. Boone is No. 11.

West Orange (1-2) has to surrender homefield advantage for the rest of the season due to stadium damage caused by Irma. Warriors coach Bob Head confirmed on Monday that his team will now play Friday’s game at Cypress Creek (2-0).

No. 5 Jones (1-1) is set to complete a Week 2 game against Oak Ridge (0-2) when it hosts the Pioneers in a game that resumes today at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers lead 13-0 heading into the second quarter.

Another makeup game added to tonight’s slate is Atlantic (0-2) at Pine Ridge (1-1).

After two consecutiv­e cancellati­ons, coach Doug Nichols of No. 1 Osceola (2-0) put out calls and was able to land a new opponent on Monday. The Kowboys will host Rockledge (0-1) on Friday.

No. 10 Seminole (2-0) will host Jensen Beach (1-0) on Friday in a game postponed from Week 3.

The No. 15 Lake Mary (1-1) at No. 13 Lake Brantley (1-2) game is now set for Monday, Oct. 2.

Lake Minneola (1-2) vs. No. 16 Hagerty (1-1) has moved to Oct. 10, with a site change. Hagerty will now host.

The No. 2 Dr. Phillips (2-0) at No. 12 Timber Creek (2-0) game from Week 2 will be made up Oct. 30 at 7.
