Dr. Phillips climbs to top with shutout win

Dr. Phillips vaulted into the top spot in the Sentinel Super 16 football rankings this week following a convincing shutout of Daytona Beach Mainland on Friday.

The host Panthers knocked off then-No. 4 Mainland 20-0 in a battle of Top 5 teams.

“We just wanted to come out hard after [losing to Mainland] last year,” Dr. Phillips senior Braxton Clark said. “This is going to give us a lot of confidence because last year we had a lot of seniors on defense. We’ve had a lot of young guys in there this year, and games like this help us a lot.”

Dr. Phillips swapped spots with Osceola after the Kowboys won 35-21 over Rockledge. Osceola is now No. 2.

Timber Creek (2-1) dropped out of the rankings after Oak Ridge (1-3) rallied for a 20-14 win against the Wolves.

The biggest mover in the rankings this week is Port Orange Spruce Creek.

The Hawks moved up from No. 14 to No. 10 after defeating Jacksonvil­le Sandalwood 33-13 and Haines City 44-0 on the road over a span of four nights.

Clermont East Ridge is new to the rankings at No. 14 after winning on the road 41-0 over Ocoee.

Panthers held then-No. 4 Daytona Beach Mainland to 164 total yards in 20-0 win.

Five turnovers helped Kowboys dispose of visiting Rockledge (0-2) 35-21.

Blue Darters celebrated 200th career victory for coach Rick Darlington with 21-10 win over then-No. 11 Boone.

Jones has given up seven total points past three games after 56-0 win vs. Agape Christian (0-2).

Hornets beat South Sumter (0-4) 42-20 to set up Friday’s district showdown at Jones.

Michael Lopez intercepte­d two passes in 35-0 win over visiting Evans (3-1).

Titans outscored then-No. 13 Lake Brantley (1-3) 15-0 in fourth quarter to win 35-21.

Mustangs have allowed only 12 points this season after 15-0 win over Olympia (2-2).

First full game in nearly a month results in 50-7 win vs. Jensen Beach (1-1).

Hawks won twice in four nights over Jacksonvil­le Sandalwood (1-3) and Haines City (1-3).

Losses have come against No. 5 Bishop Moore, No. 7 Orange City University and No. 15 Hagerty.
