Newton dropped prior to apology

Dannon, the maker of Oikos yogurt, cut ties with spokesman on Thursday following what the company perceives as “sexist” comments the Panthers quarterback made to a female reporter. Company spokesperson

released a statement saying it was “shocked and disheartened” at the former league MVP’s behavior and comments toward

a Charlotte Observer reporter.

After he was dropped, Newton issued a video apology Thursday night, saying “my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful toward women . ... That was not my intention, and if you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you.”

Newton acknowledged he lost “sponsors and countless fans,” adding that he’s “learned a valuable lesson through all of this.”

Rodrigue issued an apology herself after coming under fire for using a racial slur in tweets she posted about four years ago. The tweets were first reported by BlackSportsOnline.com.

“I apologize for the offensive tweets ... from 4/5 years ago,” Rodrigue said on her Twitter account. “There is no excuse for these tweets and the sentiment behind them. I am deeply sorry and apologize.”

Rodrigue was a college student at Arizona State at the time of the tweets.

NFL looks at claims: The NFL is looking into a situation Monday night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during which Redskins receiver said he was called racist names and cursed at by a fan.

Pryor posted on Instagram on Wednesday that it got so bad during the game that a league employee had to stand by him from the second quarter on. Pryor apologized to teammates and the organization for “flicking the person off.” NFL spokesman

said the league is looking into “all aspects” of Pryor’s claim and will report back when the review is complete. Lockhart added that the league has “no tolerance for racial remarks directed at anyone in a stadium” and said those fans are not welcome to come back “this week, next week or any time.”

On Instagram, Pryor said the comments are the reason players are kneeling during the national anthem. He said he didn’t kneel because he and his teammates decided to stand together. wide
