Lake Mary cracks Top 10

Lake Mary gained the most ground in this week’s area rankings this week after winning a crucial district showdown in convincing fashion.

The Rams moved up four spots to No. 9 after throttling then-No. 10 Orange City University 49-20 to set up a district championsh­ip matchup at No. 12 Seminole on Friday.

Seminole dropped six spots to No. 12 after being held to 186 yards of offense in a 28-21 loss to University early last week.

The Seminoles rebounded three days later to roll past Winter Springs 49-7.

Boone also took a plunge in the rankings, down three spots to No. 15, after falling 27-7 to No. 2 Winter Park in a game that decided Class 8A, District 3.

The Braves host No. 16 Lake Nona tonight at 7 in what is likely to affect Boone’s playoff chances as a wild card. Lake Nona clinched the 7A-5 title last week.

No. 4 Wekiva is at No. 5 Apopka on Friday in a clash of Super 16 teams battling for the 8A-4 championsh­ip.

The updated Super 16 rankings:

1. Osceola (7-0): Braxton Jones went 6 of 7 passing for 69 yards and touchdown in 43-0 win at Haines City (1-7). 2. Winter Park (9-0):

Cullen Honohan led Wildcats with 16 tackles in 27-7 win vs. then-No. 12 Boone (5-2).

3. Jones (8-1): Tigers recorded their third shutout of season in 59-0 win vs. Eustis (3-5). 4. Wekiva (7-1): Mustangs posted highest point total of season in 61-7 win at Orlando University (2-5). 5. Apopka (6-2): Blue Darters were idle last week. 6. (7) Dr. Phillips (6-2):

Japerri Powell led Panthers with 13 tackles (3 for loss), a sack and forced fumble in 31-10 win vs. Olympia (4-4). 7. (8) Bishop Moore
