Who has the edge?
OFFENSE
The two strongest Group of 5 dual-threat quarterbacks will face off, with UCF’s McKenzie Milton and USF’s Quinton Flowers shattering school records this season. Milton has the benefit of working with a much improved offensive line and a variety of other playmakers. With support, Milton leads the nation’s top scoring offense. Edge: UCF
DEFENSE
UCF’s defense helped spark the recovery from a winless 2015 season. Linebackers Pat Jasinski and Shaquem Griffin have set the tone for this year’s Knights defense. USF has typically relied on its offense, but this year the Bulls’ defense — led by senior Auggie Sanchez — has put the team in position to contend for the AAC East Division crown. Edge: USF
SPECIAL TEAMS
Both teams have strong kickers in USF’s Emilio Nadelman and UCF’s Matt Wright. What sets the Knights apart is the rest of the special-teams unit. UCF ranks No. 6 nationally in punt returns, No. 11 in kickoff returns and No. 35 in punting with Mac Loudermilk, Mike Hughes and Adrian Killins all making big plays for the Knights. Edge: UCF
COACHES
First-year USF coach Charlie Strong inherited a team picked to win the AAC title, but there has been grumbling among Bulls fans the offense took a big step back. Scott Frost has thrived in his second season at UCF, helping the Knights go from 0-12 in 2015 to 10-0 so far this season. Both coaches have been linked to coaching vacancies. Edge: UCF
INTANGIBLES
Both sides have made it clear they have no love for each other and are passionate about winning. UCF opened as a 9.5-point favorite thanks, in part, to its momentum and pile of more convincing wins. The Knights also have a huge home-field advantage at sold-out Spectrum Stadium and have not lost a game this season. Edge: UCF
