said. He rattled off destinations: St. Petersburg in Russia, Samoa, the south of France, Monte Carlo, Norway, Colombia, the Panama Canal, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

He picked Cartagena, Colombia, as his favorite stop. “It’s real diverse, it’s tropical waters, wonderful, beautiful people of all colors, not a whole lot of sirens or gunshots,” he said.

What does he get from the show?

“Just helping people. It’s not something I really expected,” he said. “I get to share my humor with them . ... It feels good, because it’s reality based, but it’s a happy reality,”

Davidson has been away since May on the show, and he sounded ready to play comedy clubs.

“I talk about people and what we do, the stupid things we do,” he said. One topic is race. “I talk about the difference between us but the similarities ... the differences to see the similarities,” he said.

He said he’s hopeful about racial relations and dismissed some tensions as “just politics.”

“It’s not a new thing that politicians take advantage of pitting one group against another to exploit their gains,” Davidson said.

“In a way it’s a political act,” he added. “I don’t want to give away the joke, but let’s say I do Trump’s first and last speech.”

Like many fellow comedians, Davidson says President Donald Trump has been a boon to acts. “He’s given us more to talk about. Everybody knows he’s a fool,” Davidson said.

Davidson was happy to watch Trump from afar. “On the ships, there’s a lot of CNBC, a lot of news,” he said. “I’m delighted to report I haven’t been in the country for a year. I got spared all the agony.”

He continues to offer impressions of Sammy Davis Jr. and Michael Jackson. “They still work every time — timeless,” he said.

Other impressions include Anita Baker, Michael McDonald and Stevie Wonder. “They’re all go-tos. When all else fails, do Al Jarreau,” he said.

“I’m an all-around entertainer. I do it all. I was doing [Barack] Obama for eight years, I do Trump in small increments,” he said. “I just want everybody to come out and really have a ball. That’s what my show is all about, smiles and giving people some happiness.”
