Metro MOVEs.

For the past five years, a campaign called “Let’s Move for A Better World’ has enabled gym members to donate Technogym equipment to local facilities by logging their MOVEs (the brand’s unit for measuring movement) and tracking their workouts on a cloud-based open platform for fitness.

During this year’s campaign, 1,033 fitness facilities across 29 countries participated, with more than 180,000 participants completing a total of of 628 million MOVEs, burnng more than 263 million calories and losing about 83,000 pounds.

The big winner is the community. Orlando has the local

In 2016, the Dr. Phillips YMCA finished the campaign No. 1 in North America. YMCA of Central Florida elected to have the donation — between $8,000 and $10,000 — go to Blanchard, one of its small outreach sites.

Last year, they received a total prize of $8,000, which was used on the Y’s Healthy Weight and Your Child, a program for children in south Orlando living with obesity.

This year, the Y decided to make sure that children would be the beneficiaries.

For every 350,000 MOVEs collected at Ys, a child will be selected to “have the best summer ever,” said Kelly Prather, YMCA of Central Florida’s executive director of Health Strategies and Member Experience.

Prather expects that five to 10 children will be selected by Y officials, based on financial need, to choose whatever program, camp or activity they desire, with the Y taking care of the cost. Among the options are YMCA day camps, youth sports programs, aquatics and Camp Wewa.

The children will be selected sometime in April.

“We’re going to let them do whatever they would like to do for the entire summer, to make sure they get to have the best, coolest summer they’ve ever had,” said Prather.

Keimy Milanes, wellness director of the Downtown Orlando YMCA, called the campaign an “opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child and to get our community involved in a great cause.”

“We are not only motivating our members to live a more active lifestyle,” Milanes continued, “but to also donate their MOVEs so that we can give a child in our community the best summer ever.”

In 2017 across the world, 782 clubs in 26 countries participated, with 142,000 participants completing more than 482 million MOVEs, burning 201 million calories and losing 64,000 pounds.
