Wolves win Spring Sting

Timber Creek had quite the week in boys volleyball.

The Wolves won the Spring Sting Invitation­al, beating host Bishop Moore 2-0 in Saturday’s final, three days after topping an excellent Lake Mary team in four sets.

The Wolves won the first set 25-20 and seemed to be in control of the second. But the Hornets (20-2) scored four straight to take a 19-18 lead. Timber Creek regrouped and put the final kill away to win 25-23. led the team with six kills and four blocks.

“It’s nice to see because earlier in the season we would have lost that game,” Wolves coach said.

The spring sports playoff season is upon us, with district tournament­s for lacrosse, water polo and tennis this week.

Girls lacrosse defending state champion Bishop Moore (16-1) is the No. 1 seed for the District 12 tournament at Dr. Phillips.

Other top seeds in that sport include Hagerty (14-3), Dr. Phillips (13-4) and Lake Highland Prep (12-6). Lake Brantley (10-5) is the top seed and host for District 7, with Lake Mary (12-2) No. 2.

Top-seeded boys lacrosse squads include Winter Park (15-1), Bishop Moore (13-2), Lake Mary (12-2) and undefeated West Orange (12-0).

Olympia, which won the girls water polo state championsh­ip last season, now has a 23-2 boys team that is a contender for state honors going into this week’s district tournament at the YMCA Aquatic Center on I-Drive.

Metro Conference champ Winter Park (18-3) is a top boys team that is top seed for its District 4 tournament at home.
