Police say Casselberry man choked girlfriend to death

- By David Harris

A man sat “calm and cordial” in a chair and showed little concern about his girlfriend as she lay dead on the floor, according to an arrest affidavit. Casselberry police say William Pyle, 51, strangled his girlfriend, Pamela Rooks, 55. He’s charged with firstdegree murder. “He was not exhibiting any emotion and did not appear to be upset or previously crying,” wrote Casselberry police Det. Chris Rich.

Pyle’s mother called 911 around 5:30 p.m. April 10 after she arrived at her son’s condo at 239 Mont Blanc Court and found Rooks unresponsive on the floor.

She told dispatchers Rooks and Pyle got into a “quarrel” and she hit the wall and fell.

Rooks also was bloodied and bruised, according to the affidavit.

Pyle’s mother said Rooks and her son had been dating on and off and living together for years, the affidavit said. She said they used to fight because her son thought Rooks was cheating on him, the affidavit said. The mother also said she told Rooks to remain faithful to her son.

“I said … ‘if you are seeing someone else, you are entitled to do whatever you want but you know how Bill (Pyle) is, something bad is going to happen,’ ” she told detectives.

The mother also told detectives her son had a history of domestic violence against Rooks, and said he’d hit her once but she later dropped the charges, according to the affidavit.

Rooks’ brother also said Pyle had a history of domestic violence and told the detective he didn’t know they were living together again, the affidavit said. He said his sister likely didn’t divulge that information because her family did not approve of her being with Pyle, according to the affidavit.

Records show Pyle is on probation for a 2016 battery conviction when he hit his neighbor with a flashlight.

He’s at the Seminole County Jail without bond.
