Colonial Drive will close for I-4 work
Colonial Drive will be closed overnight Saturday between Orange and Garland avenues as crews swing a truss into place for a new pedestrian bridge over the busy road. The east-west artery will close at 10 p.m. Saturday and reopen at 6 a.m. Sunday. When it does, the truss for the $9.5 million bridge will be angled into place, city officials said Thursday.
The quarter-mile bridge will connect downtown to the Orlando Urban Trail and Gertrude’s Walk, allowing bicyclists to safely enter or leave downtown or having to cross the congested road.
Overnight Saturday, eastbound drivers will be directed to turn south onto Hughey Avenue, east on Amelia Street and north on Magnolia Avenue before continuing on Colonial. Westbound drivers will be directed to turn south on Orange Avenue, then west on Amelia Street and north on Garland Avenue before being able to continue on Colonial. Detour signs will be posted as well detailing routes available for drivers.
