Colo­nial Drive will close for I-4 work

Colo­nial Drive will be closed overnight Satur­day be­tween Or­ange and Gar­land av­enues as crews swing a truss into place for a new pedes­trian bridge over the busy road. The east-west artery will close at 10 p.m. Satur­day and reopen at 6 a.m. Sun­day. When it does, the truss for the $9.5 mil­lion bridge will be an­gled into place, city of­fi­cials said Thurs­day.

The quar­ter-mile bridge will con­nect down­town to the Or­lando Ur­ban Trail and Gertrude’s Walk, al­low­ing bi­cy­clists to safely en­ter or leave down­town or hav­ing to cross the con­gested road.

Overnight Satur­day, east­bound driv­ers will be di­rected to turn south onto Hughey Av­enue, east on Amelia Street and north on Mag­no­lia Av­enue be­fore con­tin­u­ing on Colo­nial. West­bound driv­ers will be di­rected to turn south on Or­ange Av­enue, then west on Amelia Street and north on Gar­land Av­enue be­fore be­ing able to con­tinue on Colo­nial. De­tour signs will be posted as well de­tail­ing routes avail­able for driv­ers.
