Media responsible for loss of credibility

-

If the press is “America’s watchdog,” as stated in the Aug. 16 South Florida Sun Sentinel guest editorial, when are the liberal media going to stop whining about how they are such innocent victims of that big, bad bully and start doing their job?

They didn’t do it during the eight years of the Obama administration when they were little more than a public-relations firm for him and the Democratic Party. They didn’t do it during the 2016 campaign when they openly advocated for and virtually conceded the presidency to Hillary Clinton, until the reality of Nov. 8, 2016, disturbed their slumber.

And they certainly have not earned their paychecks since that date, instead choosing to spend much of their time undermining everything the legitimate president does.

The trust and responsibility conferred on the media by the First Amendment are sacred. If they violate that trust, they have failed in their obligation to the American people.

If they abdicate their responsibility to truthfully and fairly report the news, they have no one to blame for their loss of credibility but themselves. They created “fake news.” They can dish it out, but they can’t take it when the president fights back. They own it.
