Warrick recognized during Seminoles’ opener
TALLAHASSEE — It was
night at Doak Campbell Stadium, with FSU holding a halftime ceremony during the season opener against Virginia Tech to retire the No. 9 jersey worn by the former AllAmerican.
It was fitting to have his jersey retired against the Hokies since FSU defeated Virginia Tech in the 1999 national championship game, the Seminoles’ first crown. Warrick played for the Seminoles from 1996 to 1999 and was the No. 12 scorer in FSU history with 228 career points.
He is also No. 1 in FSU history in career touchdown catches (32) and No. 3 in career pass receptions (207) and career receiving yardage (3,517).
Warrick, along with former FSU linebacker
(1990-92), were the guests at the Seminoles SodTalk before the game and Jones called Warrick the of receivers.” Warrick was emotional discussing his career and the jersey retirement.
“It’s just a humbling experience for me and I just thank God for everything that he’s done for me in my life,” Warrick told a large crowd gathered outside Doak Campbell Stadium prior to Monday night’s game. “I never thought it would happen … [to be] on the list of the names with all of those guys on there, it’s just a great honor and accomplishment for me.”
FSU coach posted on Twitter he received a special phone call two hours before kickoff Monday night’s game against Virginia Tech. Five minutes after Taggart’s post, safety made it official on Twitter.
“I am grateful for all that has been afforded me and know that with hard work, there is still more to come,” Cross wrote in a tweet. “Therefore it is with extreme excitement that I announce that I am 120% committed to Florida State University.”
Cross, who is rated a fourstar recruit by 247Sports.com, had offers from 37 schools, including Florida State, Penn State and Alabama.
Elite defensive end
