Bishop Moore set to decide on trip

-

Bishop Moore officials will decide today whether to send the Hornets football team to face Archbishop Spalding in Maryland, which could be affected by Hurricane Florence.

Bishop Moore’s athletic department will make a decision this morning regarding this week’s scheduled trip to Maryland to play Archbishop Spalding.

Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall along the Carolinas early Friday morning and could affect the Maryland area to some extent through Sunday.

The Hornets’ trip to Maryland last year was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

“It was definitely disappointing last year, more so for the seniors because they won’t get to go on it this year and they helped raise some of the money,” Bishop Moore senior Jake Kiefer said in August. “The whole team has been stoked for this.”

Spalding, located in Severn, Md., has already faced weather-related issues this season, according to The Baltimore Sun. Its season opener ended due to lightning with less than three minutes to play. Last week’s game was canceled because of inclement weather.

Bishop Moore (1-1), ranked No. 11 in the Sentinel Super 16, was on a bye last week. The Hornets are scheduled to be at South Sumter on Sept. 21 and at home against No. 10 Jones on Sept. 28. J.C. Carnahan

Stadium woes

Home stadium renovations have kept Timber Creek and Colonial on the road for football games thus far.

Bleachers are being replaced at Timber Creek due to safety concerns. Because the project is running behind schedule, the Wolves (1-2) will play Friday’s scheduled home game at West Orange (2-1) at 7 p.m.

Orange County Public Schools has a plan in place to provide temporary bleachers in time for Timber Creek’s homecoming game against Oak Ridge on Friday, Sept. 21.

The installation of a new track at Colonial has been slowed by delays, keeping the Grenadiers (0-2) on the road. Next week’s scheduled home game will instead be hosted by Freedom (1-2). Colonial athletic director

Andy Hamre said the school expects to host its Oct. 5 game against Cypress Creek (1-2) after playing five straight on the road. J.C. Carnahan

Deltona Trinity Christian football sophomore

Marvin Reyes is riding a streak of interceptions dating to last spring when he picked off three passes in a spring game vs. Space Coast.

He intercepted a pass in the Eagles’ Kickoff Classic game at Trinity Prep and added a theft in both regular season wins to date for a team that is 3-0. Trinity Christian’s Week 2 game was a forfeit victory.

Reyes is also a perfect 10-for-10 on extra-point kicks this season.

Fourth-ranked Class 8A Vero Beach (3-0) routed Miami Dr. Krop 44-0 last week for its 46th consecutive regular season football victory. That ties for the second longest such streak in state history.

Union County won 46 straight in a 1993-98 stretch that saw the Tigers claim three consecutive state championships. Hardee County won 46 in a row in its 2001-06 regular seasons.

The record is 60, set by Lakeland (1995-2001).
