Deputies: Wife claims stab­bing was ac­ci­den­tal

A 38-year-old woman was ar­rested Wed­nes­day in the killing of her hus­band, af­ter Polk County sher­iff’s deputies say she gave con­flict­ing ver­sions of his death.

Rachel Fi­da­nian of Lake­land is be­ing charged with se­cond de­gree mur­der af­ter 40-year-old Bryant Fi­da­nian died of a stab wound through his rib bones on June 25, ac­cord­ing to the Polk County Sher­iff’s Of­fice spokesman Brian Bruchey.

Au­thor­i­ties said the sus­pect changed her ver­sion of the events sev­eral times, telling deputies that she slipped with a knife while do­ing the dishes, slic­ing pizza for her hus­band or car­ry­ing her dog with one arm.

Rachel Fi­da­nian ex­plained her dog was cov­ered in fe­ces while she was do­ing an­other task and ran to clean him up, ac­cord­ing to an ar­rest af­fi­davit. She said she asked her hus­band to help her and when she walked to­wards him, the knife still in-hand, she tripped on an area rug and stabbed him.
