‘Rocky Horror,’ ‘Misery’ in Enzian Halloween series

Vincent Price, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and a landmark vampire film are part of the “13 Films of Halloween” from Enzian.

Price headlines “The Pit and the Pendulum,” which receives a free screening at 8 p.m. Thursday in Winter Park’s Central Park. Roger Corman directed the 1961 chiller based on the Edgar Allan Poe story. John Kerr and Barbara Steele costar in the film, which runs just 80 minutes.

The other films will play at Enzian, 1300 S. Orlando Ave. in Maitland.

The vampire classic, “Nosferatu,” screens at noon Saturday. F.W. Murnau directed the 1922 silent, which runs 94 minutes. Max Schreck plays the vampire Count Orlok in the German film, which has English title cards. Expect crisp, clear images: Enzian presents an HD edition mastered from the 35mm restoratio­n.

The scares continue with “Creepshow” at 11:59 p.m. Saturday. George A. Romero directed the 1982 film. Stephen King, Leslie Nielsen and E.G. Marshall are in the cast.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” plays at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Jim Sharman directed the 1975 musical classic. Barry Bostwick, Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry and Meat Loaf head the terrific cast.

Kathy Bates proved an actress can win an Oscar for horror with “Misery,” which screens at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. James Caan costars with Bates and her bat. Rob Reiner directed this 1990 shocker.

“Re-Animator” plays at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Stuart Gordon directed this unusual 1985 mix of comedy and horror. The subject: re-animating corpses. Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton star.

“Frankenwee­nie,” Tim Burton’s 2012 spooktacul­ar, will be part of the Kid’s Halloween Party on Sunday, Oct. 21. There will be lunch and games from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The film starts at 1 p.m. The movieparty package, with a costume contest, is $20 per person.

John Carpenter’s 1982 version of “The Thing” shows at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, as part of the Cult Classics series. Kurt Russell and Richard Dysart star in the shocker about a monster doing away with research scientists in Antarctica.

Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes” will play at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. A family fights cannibals in the 1977 classic, which will be shown in a new 4K restoratio­n.

“Horror of Dracula,” a 1958 chiller, plays at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, as part of the Cult Classics series. Christophe­r Lee is Count Dracula, and Peter Cushing is Dr. Van Helsing. Terence Fisher directed.

Enzian’s Halloween Party, which is free and open to anyone 21 and older, starts at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, and runs until 2 a.m. the next day.

Costume contest winners will be revealed at 11 p.m.
