Sweeps highlight volleyball playoff matches
Defending Class 9A state volleyball champion West Orange got 15 kills and 17 digs from Taylor Head and 15 assists from Regan Washington as the Warriors (21-6) swept Winter Park 3-0 (25-16, 25-7, 25-16) in a regional quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Mariana Oliveras-Cely had nine kills and seven digs for Winter Park (15-14).
Sweeps were the theme of the opening round of the playoffs.
Other 9A winners Oviedo, Timber Creek and Dr. Phillips all won 3-0 matches. Vero Beach knocked off Osceola 3-0.
In 8A undefeated East Ridge (26-0) swept St. Cloud and Hagerty blanked Windermere 3-0, while in 7A New Smyrna Beach won 3-0 over South Lake.
Taylor Head had 15 kills and 17 digs and Regan Washington added 15 assists as West Orange (21-6) defeated Winter Park 25-16, 25-7, 25-16.
Rileigh Powers led Oviedo (24-4) with 16 kills in a 25-9, 25-15, 25-17. with 12 kills in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 victory.
Spruce Creek (25-3) won 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. Dr. Phillips (22-6) won 25-12, 25-14, 25-13.
Vero Beach (16-5) won 25-18, 25-20, 25-20. Allison Palmi had 20 kills and 7 digs for Osceola (21-7).
Naomi Cabello led the Knights (25-0) with 14 kills and 23 assists in a 25-22, 25-15, 25-21 sweep.
The Barracudas (26-3) won 25-18, 25-15, 25-10. Bishop Moore (17-9) won 25-12, 25-12, 25-16. (26-2) swept the Panthers 25-15, 25-8, 25-6.
