Wekiva returns to top spot

A wild week of high school football caused a stir in the Sentinel Super 16 rankings.

Wekiva’s 35-0 win over visiting Apopka in Week 10, coupled with Hagerty’s 31-15 upset over previously­unbeaten Edgewater, helped the Mustangs return to the No. 1 spot. Wekiva started the season as the top-ranked team in the area before losing to West Orange four weeks ago.

Edgewater falls four spots from No. 1 to No. 5, while Apopka is down two spots to No. 9.

Hagerty returns to the rankings this week at No. 13. The Huskies are followed at No. 14 by Liberty, which joins the Super 16 for the first time after winning 62-28 at Lake Nona. Lake Nona and Groveland South Lake, which lost 63-17 at home to Gainesvill­e, dropped out of the rankings entering the final week of the regular season.

The Super 16 consists of teams in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Team record and upcoming opponents are included in rankings with last week’s ranking, if different, noted in parenthese­s. (4-5).

Wildcats were off last week. Friday vs. No. 15 Lake Mary (5-4).

R.J. Harvey threw a TD pass to Cobe Stribling and Isaiah Connelly rushed for a touchdown in 31-15 loss at Hagerty (6-3). Friday vs. Boone (5-4).

Ian Schoenwett­er was in on 16 total tackles in 35-13 loss at Jacksonvil­le Sandalwood (5-4). Friday vs. Daytona Beach Seabreeze (1-8).

O’Shea Baker and Grayden Krull caught touchdown passes in the first quarter of 17-10 win at then-No. 13 Lake Mary (5-4). Friday vs. No. 12 Bishop Moore (6-3).

Warriors were off last week. Friday vs. Ocoee (5-4). Blue Darters were held to 110 yards of offense in 35-0 loss at then-No. 2 Wekiva (8-1). Friday vs. Oak Ridge (6-3).

Nathan Herstich finished 21 of 34 passing for 240 yards and two touchdowns in 24-14 win at Satellite (3-6). Nov. 9 in Class 7A region quarterfin­als. Josh for a Matt Bozzacco rushed touchdown and Rucker scored on an 11-yard reception in 34-14 loss at Lyman (4-5). Friday vs. Lake Howell (2-7).

Hornets held Eustis (4-5) to 145 yards of total offense in 48-7 win. Friday at No. 7 Seminole (7-2).

Ian Watts intercepte­d a pass and recovered a fumble in a 31-15 win vs. thenNo. 1 Edgewater (8-1). Friday at Timber Creek (3-6).

La’Randy Swint had 7 receptions for 139 yards and 3 TDs and Ja’Randy Swint rushed for 114 yards and a TD in 62-28 win at thenNo. 14 Lake Nona (6-3).

Friday vs. Eagle Lake Lake Region (0-9).

Mike Cardegnio scored on an 11-yard run and Pedro Rodriguez caught five passes in 17-10 loss vs. thenNo. 9 Seminole (7-2). Friday at No. 4 Winter Park (8-1).

Chris Fulse recorded six tackles (three for loss) in 55-0 win at Cypress Creek (1-8). Nov. 9 in Class 8A region quarterfin­als.
