Want ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ tickets? Outlook not good

While “Hamilton” has received the lion’s share of attention in Orlando’s touring Broadway season, some theater fans have also wondered about tickets for “Dear Evan Hansen” — another hit musical coming to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The bad news is: If you don’t already have “Dear Evan Hansen” tickets, you are unlikely to get them. Unlike with other shows in the touring season, the Dr. Phillips Center never established an official public on-sale date for nonsubscribers.

Multiple factors went into that decision, said a center spokeswoman. Among them: The show’s limited engagement of eight performances; the unprecedented number of Broadway season subscribers this year; and commitments to arts-center and fan-program members.

“We knew it was going to be a very limited opportunity for additional sales,” said spokeswoman Lorri Shaban.

An early-January website check showed all Orlando performances of “Dear Evan Hansen,” which plays April 16-21, listed as sold out. But tickets might become available closer to the show dates — keep checking, the center advises.

In addition, “Dear Evan Hansen” will hold a daily lottery for reduced-price seats during the run of the show. Details on how that lottery will work will be made available closer to opening night.

“Dear Evan Hansen” tells the story of a socially awkward high-school student who tells a well-intentioned lie that then spirals out of control. The show won six Tony awards, including best musical, in 2017.
