Let’s make 2019 the year of the foodie
Let’s all get out to local events more in 2019. Celebrate the start of 2019 with a foodie-centric activity — or an event ideally situated near some good food.
Indulge in $2.99 Bloody Marys
Metro Diner will be pouring $2.99 Bloody Marys from open to close today. Brunch all week with a glass paired with chicken and waffles, biscuits and sausage, and more.
Go: 985 N. State Road 434 in Altamonte Springs and 11650 University Blvd. in Orlando; MetroDiner.com
Try Sushi Pop’s new Winter Park location
Two weeks ago, I said I expected Sushi Pop to announce the opening of its new second location in Winter Park — and it happened. The restaurant is hosting soft opening hours of 5-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday; and 5-9 p.m. Sunday.
Take a class
Learn something new — or hone your cooking skills further — with one of the many classes Central Florida businesses offer.
If you have twin goals of cooking more and spending less, let me point you in the direction of the Orange County Library System. Often free with a library card, these classes range from kid-friendly activities, such as making candy sushi, to more adult topics, such as healthy eating. Go: Visit OCLS.info to find a class near you.
See some local art
More than 80 local artisans will be at the Baldwin Park First Friday Festival starting at 5:30 p.m. today. Pair some shopping with a meal at one of Baldwin Park’s restaurants, and you’re set for a fun night. I’m recommending Meza Mediterranean Grill, The Osprey Tavern or Seito Sushi.
Go: New Broad Street, Baldwin Park
Drinks and a show
Lakeridge Winery will hold its annual Winter Music Series with musicians taking over an outdoor stage and inside the venue’s Wine & Cheese Bar every Saturday in January. Enjoy a complimentary wine tasting or winery tour in between sets.
Go: 19239 U.S. 27 North in Clermont; 1-800-768-9463; LakeridgeWinery.com
Tap into yoga — and beer
Bring your own mat to Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. for yoga from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The
