This Weekend: Demings, John Mina, Amendment 4
Some of Central Florida’s most important figures will be guests on public-affairs programs this weekend:
New Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings talks to Greg Warmoth on “Central
Florida Spotlight” at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on WFTV-Channel 9. They go over former sheriff Demings’ transition plan and many priorities as mayor. They talk affordable housing, transportation, public safety, the local economy and wages (a key issue for Demings), growth and job/economic development. They also discuss how Mayor Demings and Congresswoman Val Demings have become Central Florida’s preeminent power couple. He explains how their shared commitment to public service will benefit constituents.
New Orange County Sheriff John Mina, who succeeded Demings, will be Ryan Elijah’s guest on “Orlando Matters” at 10 a.m. Saturday on WOFL-Channel 35. Mina focuses on the community’s role in helping police solve crimes. The program also previews the leadership changes next week in Tallahassee. (The Sentinel has a content-sharing agreement with WOFL.)
Rep. Anthony Sabatini, R-District 32, talks to Justin Warmoth on “The Weekly
at ClickOrlando.com” at 8 a.m. Sunday on WKMG-Channel 6. Sabatini is sponsoring a bill to ban red-light cameras in Florida. The freshman member of the Florida House also discusses school safety, the environment and items he’ll be working to pass during the next legislative session in March.
State Sen. David Simmons, R-District 9, talks to “Political Connections” at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday on Spectrum News 13. He will discuss the upcoming Legislative Session and how the new governor may shape the lawmaking session. PolitiFact Truth-O-Meter rates a claim by President Donald Trump about military pay raises. “In Focus With Allison Walker-Torres” focuses on the implementation of Amendment 4 to restore voting rights to felons. The program airs at 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Sunday on Spectrum News 13. The guests are state Sen. Darryl Rouson, D-District 19; Polk County Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards; and Reggie Garcia, clemency attorney.
“Metro Center Outlook” repeats a program on the e-gaming at 9 a.m. Sunday on WUCF TV. Ben Noel and Alex Jebailey discuss how gaming has changed and how they have adapted.
“Global Perspectives” repeats an interview with Gary Grappo at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on WUCF TV. Grappo, a former U.S. ambassador, is a distinguished fellow at the Korbel School at the University of Denver. He discusses the role of America in international affairs.
