Flat tax

-

Rather than apply an arbitrary and punitive wealth tax on the most productive people in our country, as Mr. Epstein suggests in his letter (”National Wealth Tax”, Jan. 10), we would be much better off to apply a 10 percent income tax on everyone, no exceptions.

Only a small portion of Americans pay any income tax. If everyone had to mail a check to the government on April 15, no matter what their income level, we would undoubtedly hear a call for less government spending and fewer entitlements.

It is very easy to spend someone else’s money; it is not quite so easy to part with your own. Janet Smith Windermere
