‘Hamilton’ tickets for $10? Here’s how to win

Orlando Sentinel - - LOCAL & STATE - By Matthew J. Palm

Still seeking an elusive “Hamilton” ticket? There is hope in the form of a daily ticket lottery for the musical, which plays Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts from Jan. 22-Feb. 10.

The best part? You don’t even have to go downtown to participate. The lottery will be digital, run through the “Hamilton” app for Android and Apple devices. (Go to hamiltonmusical.com/app or register at hamiltonmusical.com /lottery).

Each performance has a 22-hour window to enter its lottery, which opens two days before that show. For example: To try for tickets on opening night, Jan. 22, enter the lottery beginning at 11 a.m. Jan. 20. That lottery would close at 9 a.m. Jan. 21 and you would be notified at about 11 a.m. by email or text if you did or didn’t win.

If you are a lucky winner, you will have until 4 p.m. the day you are notified — Jan. 21 in my example — to buy the tickets online with a credit card, using a special

link and code that is emailed to you. That deadline is important. If you do not complete your purchase by 4 p.m. the day before your showtime, the tickets are forfeited.

Forty tickets will be available for each performance. Winners may buy two tickets at the price of $10 each. Tickets may be available at the center two hours before each show — bring a valid (nonexpired) photo ID that matches the name used to enter the lottery. This is also important: The tickets are nontransferable.

Tickets for the touring production’s run essentially sold out during a chaotic November day of online sales hampered by technological glitches. A few tickets subsequently became available and were promptly snapped up, but the center says last-minute seats might still open up during the run — keep checking drphillipscenter.org.
