Bikes help community

-

In response to your recent editorial (“Orlando needs to learn from other cities to avoid scooter hell,” Feb. 2), as a pastor, I’m happy to read that Orlando wants to be “scooter heaven.” The Lime bikes have been successful because beyond solving a transportation issue, they’re getting people out in their communities, interacting with each other. What a wonderful thing to see! I think many had forgotten how important it is to be outside with our neighbors rather than isolated in our homes and cars. I’m hopeful the bikes and future scooters will continue to remind us of this and foster a stronger community.

I understand it’s not perfect. New things rarely are. I was pleased to read that Fort Lauderdale is working with scooter companies to improve the experience for everyone. I hope our leaders will be as openminded, seeing that this is more than about getting from A to Z. Although, that alone put a smile on my face when I took a ride.
