HGTV’s “House Hunters” features a family from Altamonte Springs next week, and the episode could get emotional.

Amanda Robinson, head athletic trainer for Florida State University men’s basketball team, looks to buy her first home in Tallahassee. Robinson, 29, receives help from her parents, Tanya and Tony Robinson, of Altamonte Springs. The episode debuts at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12.

HGTV says in its synopsis that the FSU trainer “dreams of a historic bungalow with a front porch, but her mother insists she consider something newer and maintenance-free.”

In an email interview, Amanda Robinson talked about the experience.

Question. Did your mother provide good advice?

Answer. Overall, my mother provided excellent advice. No matter how much HGTV you watch, there’s nothing like actually buying your first home and dealing with all the challenges that come along with it. She tried to prepare me for some of the things that I may deal with, especially when I expressed interest in buying a historic home. She encouraged me to buy something newer that didn’t need as much work. Being a young, single, extremely-busy female can be challenging when you have a house that needs work. She wanted the experience of homeownership

to be as stress-free as possible for me.

Q. How was being on the show?

A. I’m a huge fan of HGTV and watch “House Hunters” just about every night that I can. Being on the show was like a bucket list item I didn’t know I had! Filming was more challenging than I thought it was going to be. My mom and I endured about 10 hours of filming a day for five days. It’s a lot more work than you realize. You couldn’t wear certain colors on camera, there were certain things you could and couldn’t say. It took some getting used to, but overall it was a pleasant experience. Q. Are you glad you did it? A. I’m absolutely glad I did it! How many people can say they got to be on one of their favorite TV shows? Devoting five days to filming was a little challenging with my job requirements, but I really enjoyed being part of the process. I’m glad I was able to share it with my mom who is also a huge HGTV fan.

Q. Are you happy with the property you bought?

A. I’m extremely happy! I was looking for a house that I could put my personal touch on but didn’t need any extensive work. I was able to find that in the house I ultimately purchased.
