■ Red Sox, Astros: Michael Chavis homered, Xander Bogaerts hit a tiebreakin­g double in the seventh and the Red Sox averted a sweep with a 4-3 victory over the Astros in Boston. It was the Astros’ first loss in 11 games. Mookie Betts scored three runs in the win. Red Sox ace Chris Sale struck out 10 in 51⁄3 innings, giving up three runs and four hits with five walks. In his previous start, he became the first major league pitcher to strike out 17 batters in seven innings . ... Astros OF George Springer, who leads the AL with 17 HRs, exited the game with lower back stiffness. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said after that Springer is “day to day” but will not play Monday when the Astros open a series at home against the White Sox.

■ Yankees: Brett Gardner hit a two-run HR in the second and added two hits, including an RBI double during a seven-run sixth, to lift the Yankees over the Rays 13-5 and into first place in the AL East. The Yankees took a half-game lead over the Rays, who had been alone in first 47 straight days before the Yankees scored three times in the ninth for a 4-3 win in the series opener Friday. The Rays won Saturday.

■ Indians: Shane Bieber struck out a career-high 15 in his first complete game as the Indians routed the Orioles 10-0 in Cleveland. Bieber (3-2) gave up five hits, didn’t walk anyone and threw 107 pitches. Carlos Santana hit an RBI single in the first, then led off the third with his seventh HR. The Orioles totaled just six hits in the last two games of the series.

■ Marlins: Sandy Alcantara threw a two-hitter in a pitching duel with Noah Syndergaar­d, and the Marlins beat the Mets 3-0 in Miami to complete a threegame sweep. A day after being shut out on just one hit, the Mets lost their fifth in row. Alcantara (2-4) struck out eight, walked one and needed only 89 pitches for the Marlins’ first complete game shutout since Edinson Volquez tossed a no-hitter against the Diamondbac­ks in June 2017. Syndergaar­d retired the first 12 batters and allowed two runs in seven innings.

■ Brewers: Brandon Woodruff allowed just two runs in a career-high eight innings and Ben Gamel led off the 10th with a HR to lift the Brewers over the Braves 3-2 in Atlanta. All five runs in the game came on HRs. Christian Yelich increased his major leading-leading HRs total to 19. Keston Hiura hit his firstcaree­r HR in the victory.

■ Extra innings: Bryce Harper homered for the second straight day — a tiebreakin­g, two-run HR in the sixth — to help the Phillies complete a threegame sweep of the visiting Rockies with a 7-5 victory. Ryan McMahon hit two HRs for the Rockies, who lost their fourth straight game . ... Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his fourth HR in six games, and Danny Jansen and Billy McKinney also homered to lead the Blue Jays to a 5-2 victory over the host White Sox . ... Edwin Encarnacio­n hit a three-run HR in the seventh to lead the Mariners past the visiting Twins 7-4. It was the Twins’ first loss in six games.
