Three players inked to 2020 class
GAINESVILLE — UF coach Mike White has signed three players to the Gators’ 2020 class — small forward Samson Ruzhentsev, shooting guard Niels Lane and and power forward Osayi Osifo.
The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Ruzhentsev is native of Moscow, Russia, who plays at Hamilton Heights Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. Rated the nation’s No. 108 overall prospect, Ruzhentsev averaged 17.4 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. He made 97 3-pointers and is considered one of the better shooters in the 2020 class.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Lane hails from Freehold, New Jersey, and plays for Roselle Catholic, where he is best slashing to the basket and finishing in transition. He is ranked the nation’s 120th-rated prospect by 247Sports.com.
The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Osifo plays at Eastern Florida State College in Brevard County and has played basketball fewer than four years. He appeared in 33 games, with 10 starts, as a freshman last season, averaging 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds.
The recruits all locked in their pledges during the early signing period. The class is rated No. 23 nationally by 247Sports.
“We’re really excited about all three of these guys,” White said in a statement from UF. “They’re all really talented players, and a common thread they share is that they play with a high level of energy, they’re competitive and they want to win more than anything else. On top of that, they bring a high level of character, and we’ve enjoyed getting to know each of them through the recruiting process.”
Transfers Anthony Duruji, a small forward from Louisiana Tech, and Tyree Appleby, a shooting guard from Cleveland State, are practicing with the Gators, but they will not be eligible next season, bolstering the group of new players available to White next season.
