UCF to rent out scooters
Electric mopeds available starting next month
Electric scooters will be available to rent at the University of Central Florida campus beginning next month, school officials announced Monday.
The arrival of scooters provided by Spin, a “micro-mobility unit” of Ford Motor Co., begins Wednesday in a soft launch with safety events, parking lessons and demonstration of a charging hub.
“Getting to this point took a lot of coordination and cooperation between Student Government, the UCF administration, and the UCF Police Department to ensure that we have a program that is safe and accessible to everyone,” said Kevin Olsen, student government’s director of community affairs, in a statement.
While enormously popular, scooters have provoked controversy in cities and universities across the country because of safety worries and because of examples of scooters left in inappropriate places as “scooter litter” by riders.
