Orlando Sentinel - - LOCAL & STATE - By Joe Mario Pedersen

A large fight broke out Thursday afternoon among students in a Volusia County high school, leading to the arrests of 11 students and one man, according to the Volusia County Sheriff ’s Office.

The fight erupted in the cafeteria of Atlantic High School in Port Orange among 11 boys due to another fight that took place Wednesday night at the courtyard of Sunset Oaks apartment complex near the school, VCSO said.

A school resource officer called VCSO for backup after learning about the possibility of a fight earlier that day.

Deputies as well as police officers of Port Orange and South Daytona departments were on campus when the fights started and helped break up the violence.

A third fight broke out while the students were being held in the disciplinary office of the school.

Eleven juveniles were charged with disruption of a school function as well as a misdemeanor, and two were additionally charged with probation violations resulting from the fights.

A man was arrested for allegedly bringing brass knuckles onto the campus. He told deputies he did so because one of the students involved in the Wednesday fight was his brother.

Extra law enforcement will be on campus Friday night during a school basketball game.
