Betty, a Shepherd mix who is about 2 years old, was discovered pregnant in an abandoned church in Vidalia, Georgia, by Diamonds in the Ruff dog rescue. In their care, she gave birth to seven puppies, two of which did not survive.

The Georgia rescue takes in dogs and occasionally transports those that need further care to St. Augustine, which is how in September, Betty and her then-weekold puppies ended up at A Cause 4 Paws Rescue — where she received her moniker.

“Somebody thought she looked like a Betty, but then we went to name the puppies. We named them all after ‘The Flintstones,’ ” said Laureta Arive, treasurer of A Cause 4 Paws. “Betty’s puppies were named Dino, Fred, Barney, Wilma and Pebbles.”

Her puppies — which are now 10-12 weeks old and bigger than their 28-pound mother — have all been adopted, but Betty is still searching for her new home.

“Betty is the sweetest dog ever,” Arive said. “She wants your attention. She’s happy to sit on your lap. She loves to give kisses. She just loves people.”

Betty is great with kids and people of all ages as well as other canines. In addition to cuddling and kissing, she also “enjoys running long distances and coming back,”

Arive said.

Betty is microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and spayed. Her adoption fee is $350.

“We want to home her where people are home more than they’re gone … because she’s such a social girl,” Arive said.

Those interested in Betty can go to acause4pawsrescue.org to fill out an application. The rescue will review the information and set up a meet and greet. If everything goes well, Betty can go home with her new family.
