UCF added another piece to its 2020 recruiting class when it received a commitment from a three-star offensive lineman in Germany.

Paul Rubelt, a 6-foot-10, 285-pounder, announced his decision to play for the Knights via Twitter.

“After the Arizona State University informed me that I will not be able to sign with them, I had reopened my recruitment. Today, I’m very excited and thankful to say that I’m committed to @UCF_Football

Thank you for this opportunity @coachjoshheupel @Gelarbee @GridironImports,” Rubelt wrote.

Rubelt received offers from a handful of Power 5 schools, including Florida State, Minnesota and Rutgers but initially chose to commit to Arizona State. But he changed his decision after he was told he would have to blueshirt with the Sun Devils, according to SunDevilSource, a 247Sports.com affiliate.

When schools blueshirt an athlete, they offer a scholarship when they arrive on campus, but it would count for the school’s 2020 recruiting class as long as the player doesn’t play the upcoming season.

Rubelt becomes the 17th commitment of the 2020 recruiting class for UCF and the second highest-rated recruit, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is the fourth offensive lineman committed to this class and the eighth overall over the past two seasons.

The three-day window for the early signing period begins Wednesday. It’s the first day recruits can sign a National Letter of Intent binding them to a school.
