Jackets’ Atkinson to miss 2-3 weeks
The Blue Jackets placed right wing Cam Atkinson on injured reserve Thursday with a sprained ankle. He’s expected to miss two to three weeks of action.
The move is retroactive to Dec. 19, when Atkinson injured his ankle against the Kings.
Atkinson, 30, has nine goals and 12 assists in 35 games this season. He scored 41 goals last season and had 20 or more goals in each of the last six seasons.
The Blue Jackets recalled left wing Jakob Lilja, center Ryan MacInnis and defenseman Gabriel Carlsson from their AHL affiliate in Cleveland.
The Jackets also called up defensman Adam Clendening for the first time this season.
Hawks ailing: Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook will have surgery three times in the next three months, raising questions about his future after winning three Stanley Cups with his only NHL team.
The 34-year-old Seabrook is scheduled for a season-ending operation on his right shoulder Friday. He also will have surgery on his hips in January and February.
Seabrook is under contract through the 2023-24 season at an average annual value of $6,875,000.
The last-place Blackhawks placed Seabrook and fellow defenseman Calvin de Haan on longterm IR on Thursday.
Winger Brandon Saad will be out three weeks with a right ankle injury.
