National No. 1 Montverde Academy crushed The Patrick School of Hillside, N.J., 77-32 in a clash of unbeaten boys basketball teams in Monday night’s title game of the David West Bracket in the John Wall Holiday Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.

Montverde standout and Oklahoma State signee Cade Cunningham scored 22 points and put an exclamation point in the victory late in the game when he went between his legs to switch the ball from left hand to right and then dunked. He was honored as the tournament MVP.

Day’Ron Sharpe, a 6-10 power forward signed by North Carolina, scored 16 for the Eagles, who improved to 13-0 with the rout of the Celtics (7-1), who came in ranked third in the country by USA Today.

It was a reunion for Montverde coach Kevin Boyle, who coached what was then St. Patrick of Elizabeth, N.J., for 23 years and turned the Celtics into a national power with a lineup of players that included Kyrie Irving.

Boyle has a compiled a 231-17 record in nine seasons at Montverde and has more than 700 career wins counting his New Jersey days.

Lakers fall in final: Madison Memorial of Wisconsin beat host Windermere Prep 57-50 in the boys championship game of the Rock Holiday Classic.

The Lakers (11-2) hoped to win the tournament for the first time since 2015, but the Spartans (5-3) relegated WIndermere Prep to its fourth runner-up finish in the tournament.

Madison Memorial led by 10 in the first quarter, thanks to a stifling halfcourt defense. But WPS big men Elijah Hulsewe and Fanbo Zeng got going and the Lakers held the Spartans to 14% shooting in the second quarter and took a 27-26 halftime lead.

Kwan Lewis scored 12 points, Yacouba Traore 11 and J.R. Mitchell 10 for balanced Madison Memorial.

The game was tied 34-34 after three quarters. Mitchell scored back-to-back buckets to put the Spartans ahead 38-34. Windermere Prep got no closer than 2 points the rest of the way.

Zeng had 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Hulsewe had 12 points for Windermere Prep.

Windermere Prep, No. 7 in the Sentinel Super 16 area rankings, was the only Florida team in the tournament. The field included two teams from Ohio and each from Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Windermere Prep’s next game is against the public school right down the road and another Super 16 team, Windermere High School, on Saturday, Jan. 11, as part of the Showdown in O-Town at Orlando Christian Prep.
