Lamenting Ocoee’s trees

Orlando Sentinel - - OPINION -

Oct. 16: Not too many years ago, our city (Ocoee) sported signs reading “Tree City USA.” Seems that all of them have been pulled up. Our leaders seem to be on a mission to rid these beautiful centuries-old trees from our town. They have never seen a tree-killing request from a developer they did not like.

Our best known historic house was surrounded by centuries-old oaks but is now naked looking like it did in the 1800s. All the beautiful oaks have been destroyed and the land turned into a parking lot. Nothing can take their place with the same charm and sense of history.

No wonder the wildlife is invading the city. Their homes and food sources are gone. Henry Morgan Ocoee
