Pedes­trian killed in hit-and-run crash in Bre­vard County: FHP

State troop­ers ar­rested a Mel­bourne man Wed­nes­day morn­ing and charged him with leav­ing the scene of a fa­tal crash af­ter his black In­finiti struck and killed a pedes­trian, ac­cord­ing to the Florida High­way Pa­trol.

Ja­son Strand­berg, 38, of Co­coa, was killed at about 3:30 a.m. while walk­ing along Fri­day Road near Baggett Place in Bre­vard

County, ac­cord­ing to reports.

Then at 5 a.m., the Bre­vard Sher­iff’s Of­fice re­ceived a call from a driver claim­ing he struck and ran over a pedes­trian at that lo­ca­tion. Eric Fer­gu­son, 48, was ar­rested and charged af­ter meet­ing with FHP in­ves­ti­ga­tors, reports said.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said that the 2006 In­finiti G35 Fer­gu­son was driv­ing had front end dam­age, in­clud­ing a cracked bumper and por­tion of the right front grill miss­ing. A state trooper re­ported that Fer­gu­son “was ner­vous, cry­ing and emo­tion­ally up­set,” as he was be­ing booked into the FHP sta­tion in Co­coa, ac­cord­ing to a state in­ci­dent re­port.

Fer­gu­son is be­ing held at the Bre­vard County Jail on $15,000 bond. The crash re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
