Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Brevard County: FHP
State troopers arrested a Melbourne man Wednesday morning and charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal crash after his black Infiniti struck and killed a pedestrian, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jason Strandberg, 38, of Cocoa, was killed at about 3:30 a.m. while walking along Friday Road near Baggett Place in Brevard
County, according to reports.
Then at 5 a.m., the Brevard Sheriff’s Office received a call from a driver claiming he struck and ran over a pedestrian at that location. Eric Ferguson, 48, was arrested and charged after meeting with FHP investigators, reports said.
Investigators said that the 2006 Infiniti G35 Ferguson was driving had front end damage, including a cracked bumper and portion of the right front grill missing. A state trooper reported that Ferguson “was nervous, crying and emotionally upset,” as he was being booked into the FHP station in Cocoa, according to a state incident report.
Ferguson is being held at the Brevard County Jail on $15,000 bond. The crash remains under investigation.
