Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson developing interview series
Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson is developing an interview series that she will headline.
She is partnering on the series with Blumhouse Television, which produced “The Loudest Voice” for Showtime. That dramatic series depicted how Carlson (played by Naomi Watts) spoke out against Fox News boss Roger Ailes (Russell Crowe), setting in motion his downfall.
In 2016, Carlson sued Ailes, accusing him of firing her after she refused his sexual advances. She later won $20 million and apology from Fox News. Ailes, who was forced out in the sex harassment scandal, died in 2017.
In announcing the Carlson show, Blumhouse said: “Carlson’s courageous decision to speak out against Ailes gave voice to the silent and silenced, and her historic 2016 sexual harassment suit against her former boss was instrumental to ushering in the #MeToo movement.”
Blumhouse added that the show will “feature special guests to discuss topical, provocative subject matter, including #MeToo and the movement’s evolution.”
In a statement, Carlson said: “Since filing my lawsuit three years ago, helping to tell the stories of brave women and give a voice to the voiceless has become my passion. I am thrilled to be partnering with Blumhouse as I continue to explore more untold stories and create a platform for necessary conversations. Blumhouse is known for its compelling and unique storytelling and I’m grateful to be partnering with such an incredible company as I enter the next chapter of my television career.”
Last month, Carlson founded the organization Lift Our Voices with former Fox News colleagues Julie Roginsky and Diana Falzone. They are seeking an end to nondisclosure agreements, confidentiality provisions and forced arbitration clauses. The women say those devices prevent employees from discussing and disclosing sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.
