LEARN­ING TO HAN­DLE TRAUMA

Alexan­der Merkle, a cer­ti­fied physi­cian as­sis­tant from Brooke Army Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Hous­ton, demon­strates Tues­day how to prop­erly apply a tourni­quet for ninth-graders Ali­son So­lik, left, and Con­nor Richards, fore­ground, right, as stu­dents from Boone High School’s Acad­emy of Health Sci­ence, Jr. ROTC and Crim­i­nal Jus­tice mag­net pro­grams par­tic­i­pate in a trauma medicine learn­ing day, in­clud­ing hands-on train­ing in emer­gency bleed­ing con­trol, dis­tracted driv­ing pre­ven­tion, and fire safety re­sponse. The event was hosted by the East­ern As­so­ci­a­tion for the Surgery of Trauma, Or­lando Health and Or­ange County Pub­lic Schools.
