A tale of two restaurants

COMMENTARY without a fight.

As of this writing, Governor DeSantis had just banned all Florida restaurants from all operations save pickup and delivery, the number of American cities on governmentmandated lockdown was climbing. By the time this column runs, Orlando might be one of them.

Maybe you dine out regularly, maybe not. But that Kraft box mac & cheese is gonna run out sooner or later. And you may just want to get outside. Or, you know, help our brilliant, grossly underrated but locally cherished, wonderfully colorful and prolific culinary scene from dwindling into the chaindominated wasteland Andrew Zimmern used to think it was before Orlando’s loud, proud foodies told him otherwise (and made him eat his words).

What can I do? Remind you of the small businesses that need our help. What can we all do? Go get some takeout. Or call and let them deliver it to your door. Remember, third-party apps are expensive for restaurants; use them sparingly if at all.

So, no reviews this week. Just two locals that need your help. Next week, more. Until this is over.

Let’s #OrderUpOrlando!

It was a few weeks ago. BC. Before the crazy. Before COVID-19. I was on my way back to the office and famished. I was near Ivanhoe Village. I needed something to grab and go. Also, something reasonably light and healthy. But I’m also a regular, food-loving person who has regular, foodloving thoughts.

In my case, that goes something like, “Greek Corner has the best fries.
