He’s pushing to stay on track

Nick Savage is a planner.

Not that anything could have prepared UF’s director of football strength and conditioni­ng for the past month.

But once coronaviru­s shut down the Gators’ offseason program and postponed spring football, Savage sprung into action to ensure his players’ well-being and their hard work the previous two months would not be wasted.

Managing workout regimens and nutritiona­l goals while providing emotional support to dozens of young men has not been easy. UF’s facilities are shuttered until at least April 15 and virtually every player is at home with family.

Savage, though, attacked the challenge. “I like to have a plan,” he told reporters Friday. “I will adapt with whatever is thrown my way; it’s kind of how I live life.

“When this kind of got started, long story short, I formulated a bunch of different plans based on what scenario happened. It was just a step-by-step process.”
