Heupel offers thanks to medical community
UCF coach praises willingness to fight COVID-19 epidemic
UCF football coach Josh Heupel joined sports figures nationwide Monday saluting medical professionals dealing with the coronavirus outbreak on National Doctors’ Day.
“Hey, Knight Nation. I hope this finds you safe and well. I was just sitting here thinking about what our entire country is facing and it makes me so appreciative of medical personnel across the entire country,” Heupel said during a 43-second video posted on Twitter. “Stepping forward and being willing to help us fight this fight.
“A special thank you to Orlando Health, to the doctors, nurses and staff there for being willing to step up and serve our community the way that you are. Your commitment means more now than ever. To the Knights across the country, I hope you practice social distancing and I hope you continue to stay safe, take care of the loved ones. Go Knights and charge on.”
Heupel’s message comes at a time when medical professionals across the country have been overwhelmed while fighting the deadly virus outbreak.
There have been 160,020 positive cases of coronavirus with 2,593 confirmed deaths as of 6 p.m. Monday, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
UCF has canceled all spring athletic events, including the spring football game on April 4.
Most athletes have returned home and are practicing social-distancing, taking classes online and trying to work out with whatever resources are available.
