Orlando Philharmonic reschedules Queen-Journey concert at Springs
The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will rock you later than planned: “We Will Rock You! The Music of Journey and Queen” has been postponed.
The event was the latest installment of the orchestra’s popular outdoor concert series at The Springs community in Longwood. The casual concerts, generally with a pop-rock twist, take place each spring — until this year.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Philharmonic already had postponed all events through the end of April. On Tuesday, it announced that the May 2 Springs concert would also be postponed.
“First and foremost is the health and safety of our patrons, staff and performers,” read a message from executive director Paul Helfrich, emailed to Philharmonic supporters.
Unlike with other events, a firm makeup date has already been chosen for “We Will Rock You!” The concert will be performed on Oct. 24, the Philharmonic said. Gates open at 5 p.m. for preshow partying, with the concert at 8 p.m.
Current ticket holders to the event automatically will be issued a new ticket for the rescheduled date. But the Philharmonic warned that it will take longer than usual for tickets to be emailed and mailed.
At the show, the Philharmonic musicians will be joined by Jeans ‘n Classics, a touring band fronted by vocalist Ian Jutsun that has collaborated with the Phil on previous Springs programs. The University of Central Florida Choir is also featured in the concert, which will be conducted by Philharmonic music director Eric Jacobsen.
Songs to be performed include Journey’s “Anyway You Want It” and “Don’t Stop Believin’,” along with Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and “Somebody to Love.”
For more information on the show, go to OrlandoPhil.org; currently, there is a discounted four-pack price of $42 available.
“As always, we thank you for your continued support of your Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra,” Helfrich’s message read, “and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
