A funeral service for Clermont Police Officer Conrad Buckley, who died earlier this week from the coronavirus, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Only a small group of family members will be inside the church, but the service will be streamed live on the Clermont Police Department’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/ ClermontPD.

Law enforcement members and other officials will participate outside the Real Life Church in Clermont, with officers staying in their vehicles and everyone following guidelines on safe distancing from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to a news release. “Those who worked with Officer Buckley would state how genuine and outgoing he was,” Clermont police said in a release. “Always with a smile on his face, Officer Buckley would go out of his way to say hello and ask you about your day. He possessed a great deal of knowledge, experience and during his brief time with the Clermont Police Department, proved a tremendous asset to both the department and the community.”

Buckley, 52, worked two years in Clermont after serving as an officer for the Northeastern University Police Department in Boston.

He was traveled to Massachusetts for a family emergency in late March. After returning, he was following the self-quarantine guidelines when he developed COVID-19. He died while hospitalized on Monday.

“Officer Buckley will be greatly missed by the Clermont Police Department,” Chief Charles Broadway said earlier this week. “He was an outstanding police officer who cared greatly for his fellow officers and the community. He took tremendous pride in being a police officer and carried himself with confidence and integrity. Today, the City of Clermont lost a good cop and a great man.”
