LB Mitchell adjusting to being without ‘brothers’

For UCF linebacker Eric Mitchell, the time away from his teammates has been the most difficult aspect of coronaviru­s isolation.

It’s been seven weeks since Mitchell and his teammates left campus and returned home in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. All team activities, including spring practices, were shut down. Athletes began taking online classes and using videoconfe­rencing to meet with teammates.

“The biggest adjustment is not being able to be with our brothers,” Mitchell said during a videoconfe­rence Friday from his home in Miami. “With the bond we had, we were together every day.

“Every day, we wake up and see each other. We became real brothers.

“This took a real huge toll on us, not being able to be with each other every day.”

To remain connected, Mitchell and his teammates have relied on social networking sites such as Snapchat to close the gap between each other.
